Saturday June 27, 2009 - Griffith Park – LAAS Star Party:

Every month on Saturday that is closest to the first quarter moon, the Los Angeles Astronomical Society (LAAS), a public outreach partner of Sci-Vi, hosts a “star party” on the front lawn of the Griffith Observatory. Open to the public, club members bring their telescopes to share the wonders of the universe with others. Sci-Vi interns played our animations “The Island Universes” and “The Cepheids” off the laptop for visitors and hosted the viewing of the night sky with one of our 8-inch Dobsonian telescopes. This particular evening we were able to demonstrate to the visitors the Moon, Saturn and the binary system of Alcor and Mizar.

For more information on the Griffith Observatory please visit their website at: www.griffithobs.org
For calendar of LAAS star parties, see http://www.laas.org/Events.htm
